DME Medicare Requirements

by Surety Admin 11. June 2009 13:01
A $50,000 bond, Medicare Bond, is required per billing location; for companies with more than one location, a single surety bond can be obtained for the aggregate amount. Suppliers deemed to be of "significantly higher risk" will be required to provide a bond valued at an amount greater than $50,000 (i.e. prior revocation of license, felony conviction, etc.)

DME Date Requirements

by Surety Admin 11. June 2009 12:56
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued final regulations regarding its new surety bond requirement for DMEPOS (Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies) suppliers. No later than 10/2/09 (5/4/09 for new suppliers or recent change in ownership), suppliers must provide the National Supplier Clearinghouse with a surety bond valued at no less than $50,000. This means any medical institution submitting an invoice to Medicare for payment, must provide this newly required bond. This includes more than 65,000 entities nationwide!
